Aluminium kitchen cabinets are worth considering as a complete cabinet system, rather than a promise that changing one panel material removes every maintenance concern. Doors, carcasses, internal shelves, hardware, joints and installation all contribute to how the kitchen works.

For a Singapore renovation, the useful comparison is between two clearly specified cabinet assemblies. This guide focuses on what to inspect and record before choosing aluminium cabinetry, without assuming every supplier uses the same construction.

1. Identify which parts are aluminium

Ask for a component schedule covering carcass, back, shelves, doors and internal fittings. An aluminium-framed door does not establish the construction of the cabinet behind it. Open the showroom sample and inspect internal corners. Use photographs and written specifications to avoid comparing a whole metal system with a mixed-material installation under the same label.

2. Review the complete sink cabinet

The sink zone includes plumbing, connections, sealants, fixings and access as well as cabinet panels. A different carcass material does not prevent a pipe from leaking. Ask how the installation permits inspection and maintenance. Keep the route to shut-offs and service points usable rather than closing it behind a decorative panel.

3. Test doors and drawers in person

Open a sample repeatedly, including fully loaded demonstration drawers where available. Inspect hinges, runners, stops and accessible adjustment points. Ask which hardware models are included. Door alignment, movement and sound affect daily use, and these cannot be judged reliably from the external finish alone.

4. Coordinate worktop support

The cabinet supplier and fabricator should agree how the selected countertop is supported and fixed. Confirm spans, openings and interfaces for the actual system. Do not transplant a detail from a timber cabinet drawing without checking suitability. The quotation should identify who provides reinforcement and who verifies the assembly before worktop installation.

5. Check appliance and service provisions

Provide exact models for ovens, dishwashers and other fitted equipment. Have the appropriate supplier confirm ventilation and installation conditions. Ask how services pass through the cabinet system and how cut edges or penetrations are finished. A clean elevation is not evidence that an appliance can be maintained or removed later.

6. Inspect finishes and replacement options

See the selected finish under lighting similar to the home. Ask how visible panels can be repaired or replaced and whether matching parts are available. Evaluate handles, exposed edges and junctions with adjacent timber or painted walls. Mixing materials can work well when their interfaces are designed rather than improvised.

7. Compare system-level quotations

List construction, hardware, finish, worktop interfaces, delivery and installation in the comparison. Ask for actual warranty terms instead of an unrestricted waterproof claim. Crown Interior Design can discuss whether the selected system suits your layout and design direction; the supplier should confirm the exact construction and aftercare of the product being purchased.

Compare the options before committing

Option or decision Useful when Check before approval
Full aluminium system Specified metal construction is preferred Every component and hardware model
Mixed-material cabinet Different parts serve different needs Clear schedule of what is and is not aluminium
Conventional cabinetry Its specification suits the brief Moisture management, edges and maintenance

A worked planning example

An illustrative household is attracted to an aluminium sink cabinet but wants timber-toned doors. Compare a fully specified mixed-material solution with an alternative cabinet system. Check the plumbing access and worktop support in both. Choosing by a material slogan alone would miss the parts most likely to affect installation and everyday maintenance.

What to bring to the design discussion

  • Component and hardware schedule
  • Sink and appliance model information
  • Worktop support detail
  • Finish samples and actual warranty conditions

Frequently asked questions

Are all aluminium cabinets constructed alike?

No. Confirm the actual components, joints, finish and hardware.

Does aluminium prevent kitchen leaks?

No. Plumbing and installation still need proper coordination and maintenance.

Can I mix aluminium and timber-look finishes?

Discuss compatible products and junctions with the supplier and designer before ordering.
