Stainless steel kitchen cabinets should be compared as complete assemblies. The visible door, internal carcass, shelves and fittings may not all use the same construction. A metal-looking exterior alone does not describe the kitchen you are buying.

For a Singapore home, inspect a working sample and obtain a component schedule before deciding whether the system suits your cooking, storage and finish preferences.

By Crown Interior Design.

1. Identify every component

Ask which parts are stainless steel and record the actual construction and specified grade where relevant. Do not infer the whole cabinet from one door or sample panel. Keep the schedule attached to the quotation.

2. Inspect the interior and junctions

Open the sample and review corners, backs, shelves and penetrations. Ask how the assembly is joined and finished. A tidy exterior should be accompanied by understandable construction and access to the parts that need cleaning or service.

3. Test hardware under realistic use

Compare hinges, runners and drawer operation, including suitable demonstration loads. Record models and adjustment access. Cabinet material does not by itself establish comfortable movement or durable hardware performance.

4. Review finish expectations

See the selected surface under realistic light and discuss marks, fingerprints and cleaning. Stainless steel should not be described as universally stainproof or maintenance-free. Follow the supplier’s actual care guidance and agree the appearance being purchased.

5. Coordinate the worktop and sink

Have the cabinet supplier and fabricator agree support, openings and fixings. Keep plumbing inspection accessible. A different carcass material does not remove the need for sound service coordination or prevent leaks elsewhere in the assembly.

6. Confirm appliance provisions

Supply exact models and installation documents. Review ventilation, service routes and future removal. Do not assume a cabinet niche is suitable merely because the appliance’s front fits within it.

7. Price supply and installation together

Include cabinet construction, hardware, finishing, delivery and all relevant interfaces. Crown Interior Design can coordinate the chosen system with the home’s design direction, while the supplier confirms product-specific construction, care and warranty terms.

Compare the options before committing

Option or decision Useful when Check before approval
Full specified steel system The complete assembly suits the brief Component schedule and hardware
Mixed-material kitchen Different components serve different needs Clear boundaries between materials
Alternative cabinet system Another specification is more suitable Same layout and installation scope

A worked planning example

Illustrative comparison: one quote includes steel doors on a different carcass, while another specifies steel throughout the stated assembly. They are not equivalent because both photographs look metallic. Compare the component and hardware schedules before comparing the totals.

What to bring to the design discussion

  • Component and hardware schedule
  • Finish sample and care guide
  • Sink and appliance documents
  • Complete installed quotation
